State Health Department Highlights Beaver Dam Crisis Stabilization Facility

(Beaver Dam) The Wisconsin Department of Health is highlighting five crises stabilization facilities now open across the state, including one in Beaver Dam.

Crisis stabilization facilities support people who cannot stay in their community safely, but do not need to be hospitalized. Funded by the Department of Health Services, the centers provide a dedicated location for this level of care for most counties.

Beaver Dam’s facility – operated by Elevate – serves Dodge, Columbia, Green Lake, Fond du Lac, and Marquette counties. Former Elevate executive director Mary Simon recently joined a Community Comment to share the group’s primary goals.

“Elevate is a nonprofit agency whose mission is to guide and empower individuals, families, and communities to effectively address substance abuse and mental health challenges.”

The state’s health department set aside $10-million-dollars in 2021 to support the development of five crisis stabilization facilities for adults, with each location serving multiple counties.

The funding is part of Wisconsin’s share of American Rescue Plan Act funds reserved for mental health and substance use services. The services areas are based on partnerships the providers have set up with county agencies providing mental health and substance use services.

Other crises stabilization facilities are located in Waukesha, Wausau, La Crosse, and Madison.
