State Assembly District 39 Candidates Discuss Issues On WBEV

(Beaver Dam) The candidates for State Assembly District 39 discussed the issues with us this week on WBEV’s Community Comment. Among the topics covered was education. Incumbent Mark Born highlighted the state’s successes and growth that allowed the legislature to make a record investment in education. The Beaver Dam Republican says education will continue to be a priority if he is re-elected. Democrat Elisha Barudin of Beaver Dam disagrees saying children are experiencing the worst cuts to public education in the state’s history with state general aid funding lower now than in 2010. Barudin says the burden is now shifted to communities in the forms of local referendums which in 2016 totaled $1.65-billion.
