(Columbus) A construction worker was killed after being struck by a commercial vehicle Monday morning near the Township of Columbus. At 8:30am, the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office received report of the incident that occurred on Highway 151 at Highway 73. Sheriff Roger Brandner says the worker, who was employed by a private construction company, was located within a construction zone on 151 while conducting repair work on the Highway 73 overpass. As the commercial truck passed through the work zone, a portion of the vehicle struck the construction worker. Brandner says the 29-year-old male was pronounced dead at the scene by the Columbia County Medical Examiner’s Office. Identification is being withheld pending notification of family. The commercial vehicle was owned and operated by Michel’s Construction and was identified as a 2021 International truck with a fixed crane. The incident remains under investigation. Assisting at the scene was the Columbus Police and Fire Departments, Life Star EMS, Wisconsin State Patrol and Columbia County Highway Department.
