Snow Days Result In Extension Of Beaver Dam School Year By Three Days

(Beaver Dam) It’s time for students and staff to pay the piper for all the snow days this year. The Beaver Dam School Board last Monday night approved a three-day extension of school calendar. The last day of school was originally planned for Friday, May 31. The school year will now end for students on Wednesday, June 5. Teachers were supposed to have two in-service days on June 3 and 4. Their final in-service day will now be on Thursday, June 6. Beaver Dam cancelled six school days this year, all weather-related for snow, ice and record-setting cold.

Some school board members were concerned about making the change right now noting we still have to get through “fog season.” Superintendent Mark DiStefano says there is plenty of room in the schedule for late starts and early dismissals.

The school board Monday night also approved a modification for the 2019-2020 school calendar, which was approved last year. The change allows for three “placeholder” school days, should the school year need to be extended again next year. The board will not need to vote on the extension, which would change the final day of school in 2020 from Friday, May 29 to Wednesday, June 3…should it be needed.
