Single Vehicle Crash Leads to Multi-Department Search for Driver

(Fond du Lac) Authorities were not able to immediately locate the driver in a single vehicle crash in the Township of Marshfield over the weekend. Fond du Lac County deputies responded to reports of an accident at the intersection of County Road Q and Calmar Road around 4:36pm Saturday.

Initial investigations suggest the vehicle was traveling westbound on Q, failed to negotiate the curve at the intersection with Calmar Road, leaving the roadway, and striking several trees. Deputies and a K-9 unit searched for the driver which witnesses say they saw flee the scene on foot.

Two hours later the Communications Center received a call from a friend of the driver, then reportedly identified as 36-year-old Mitchell Titel, saying he was in the woods near the area and experiencing shortness of breath. State Troopers, along with patrol deputies and the sheriff’s office drone team began an extensive search for the driver who was eventually located safely several hours later.

Authorities say alcohol may have been a factor in the crash. The incident is still under investigation.
