Silver Alert For Missing Mayville Man Cancelled, Death Investigation Launched

(Mayville) The Silver Alert for a missing Mayville man has been cancelled. At the same time, the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office has launched a death investigation following the discovery of a body on private property in the village of Kekoskee.

Sheriff Dale Schmidt says his office was contacted on Monday evening at 6:47pm reporting the body near N7548 State Highway 67. Deputies responded to the scene and located a deceased male laying in a field. Schmidt says, “the subject does match the description of a male subject who was last seen on February 15, 2020 in the City of Mayville.”

The body has been turned over to the Dodge County Medical Examiner’s Office who will be conducting an autopsy of the body and ensuring positive identification.

Schmidt is not confirming the identity but tells DailyDodge.com that his office is conducting a “thorough death investigation to rule out anything suspicious” adding that it is “too early to make any definitive findings and [investigators] will wait for the autopsy before making any initial conclusions.”

The case remains under investigation by the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office, the Mayville Police Department, and the Dodge County Medical Examiner’s Office.

On February 17, a Silver Alert was issued for John Bachhuber of Mayville. The 77-year-old was last seen on Highway 67 south of Mayville between 11pm on Saturday, February 15 and 12:20am on Sunday, February 16.
