Sheboygan Mayor Recall Slowing

10/14/11 – One of two efforts to remove Sheboygan’s embattled mayor appears to be fizzling out. A campaign to recall Mayor Bob Ryan needs 41-hundred valid signatures by November first – and only 27-hundred have been collected with 18 days to go. According to the Sheboygan Press, organizer Mary Jo Stoelb wrote in an e-mail that her group’s small resources have run out – and they’ll need extra help to collect the remaining signatures they need by the deadline. Meanwhile, attorneys are still reviewing complaints which call for the Common Council to remove Mayor Ryan. That effort would be highlighted by a quasi-judicial proceeding held by the aldermen. Ryan’s being targeted because of three public incidents of drunken behavior in his two-and-a-half years in office. The most recent incident was a three-day drinking binge in July in nearby Elkhart Lake.
