Young Lifesaver Honored At Last Night’s Golden Beavers’ Game

9/12/15 – An 11-year-old was honored during halftime of last night’s Beaver Dam High School football game for a lifesaving effort.  According to a press release from the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office, Christopher Sarabia was walking through the Majestic Hills Mobile Home Park’s parking lot in the Town of Beaver Dam on the afternoon of August 26 when he found a driver unconscious in her vehicle.  Sarabia was unable to wake the driver, ran inside his home to get his mom, called 9-1-1, and gave the phone to his mother who relayed all of the necessary information to dispatch.  Upon arrival, Beaver Dam Paramedics believed the driver had an opiate overdose and would have likely died without Sarabia taking action.  Sarabia was honored in front of his peers and coaches since last night was ‘youth football night’ in Beaver Dam.

Walker was not charged in either investigation, but Republicans have said they were politically motivated.

Walker Has Two Iowa Stops Today As Hawkeye State Support Drops

9/12/15 – Governor Scott Walker is back in Iowa today for a pair of campaign stops.  This comes one day after a new poll of likely Republican caucus participants in Iowa revealed that he dropped from first to tenth. Quinnipiac University has Walker at just 3%, down from his 18% showing in July. Donald Trump continues to build steam, with 27% support for Iowa’s first-in-the-nation caucuses on February 1. Ben Carson is second at 21%. Ted Cruz is a distant third at 9%. Peter Brown, the assistant director of the Quinnipiac poll, says it’s a two-tiered race with Trump and Carson having the edge. But Brown notes that anything can happen in the five months before the caucuses. Walker has stepped up his “Washington outsider” theme in response to several recent setbacks in the polls.

UW System Says It Avoided Laying Off Current Employees

System president Ray Cross says the jobs were cut through attrition. Some posts were never filled after employees retired — and some current employees are moving into other jobs. Last fall, Cross said the U-W would need to tighten its belt to make the 26-campus system more efficient and “nimble.” He says academic programming decisions are being streamlined — and more of them will need approvals from teams instead of just one official. He promises the U-W will work “better and smarter.”
