Second Vaccine Dose Encouraged For Immunocompromised

(Juneau) The Dodge County Health Department is encouraging those who are moderately to severely immunocompromised to get an additional COVID vaccine shot. Health officials say those who are immunocompromised should get an additional dose of an mRNA vaccine, or the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine. Additional doses are not yet recommended for non-immunocompromised people or for those who received the Johnson and Johnson vaccine. Classifications for moderately to severely immunocompromised individuals include those receiving active cancer treatment, received an organ transplant or stem cell transplant within the last two years. It also includes advanced or untreated HIV infection. Dodge County health officers say people should talk to their healthcare provider about their medical condition and if additional vaccine doses are recommended.

Individuals can visit or contact their primary care provider or health department to find a COVID-19 vaccine.
