Second Person Arrested For Allegedly Helping Two Inmates Escape Columbia Correctional

(Portage) A second person has been arrested for their alleged role in helping two inmates who escaped from Columbia Correctional Institution earlier this month. Columbia County Sheriff Roger Brandner says his office identified the white vehicle that picked up Thomas Deering and James Newman from a Poynette Piggly Wiggly following their escape. Tuesday, 46-year-old Katherine Wooderick of Madison was taken into custody at her residence with assistance from the Madison Police Department. Brandner says Wooderick was booked into the Columbia County Jail on two counts of Escape as a Party to a Crime. He says the investigation is on-going and further arrests are possible. On April 16th, Holly Marie Zimdahl of rural Pardeeville was arrested on similar charges. The 46-year-old was a civilian kitchen worker at the prison. Both Deering and Newman were taken into custody the morning of April 17th without incident in Rockford, Illinois after a citizen recognized them from wanted pictures and called police.
