Job Description

Status: Seasonal, Non-exempt
Hourly Wage : $12.50/hr.
Position Open Until Filled
Hours: Up to 40 hours per week, occasional weekends
Seasonal: April – October

Under the general direction of the Parks & Trails Supervisor, direct and assist park caretaker in maintaining buildings, grounds and equipment in good, efficient operating conditions. Maintain day-to-day operations in assigned park by processing reservations and registrations for camping and other facilities and monitoring activities and conditions of facilities.
1. Assigns work tasks to caretaker and perform tasks to supplement and assist caretaker.
2. Processes facility reservations on computer and maintains effective communication with office staff through email, phone and fax.
3. Collects camping, firewood, shelter, and other fees and accurately reconciles sales with receipts.
4. Performs grounds, buildings, facilities and trails inspection, maintenance and repairs; may include but not limited to, trash clean up, painting,
5. Carpentry, sign installation, tree and shrub planting, mowing and other landscape care.
6. Prepares and maintains records and reports as required, includes but not limited to, equipment and supply inventory and needs, damage and incident reports, employee time records and volunteer tracking worksheets.
7. Performs general custodial work; includes but not limited to cleaning, sweeping and mopping restroom facilities and shelters, picnic tables, fire pits.
8. Assists the public with reservations, directions, general aid and information on park regulations, facilities and services.
9. Enforces park rules, policies and regulations.
10. Keeps Parks Foreman and Supervisor informed of problems, incidents and needs, and makes recommendations regarding improvements or maintenance.
11. Assists and monitors the work of camp hosts and other volunteers.
12. Regular attendance and punctuality required.
13. Performs related duties as may be required or assigned.
Ability to establish and maintain a friendly disposition to the public and effective working relationships with staff, work crews and contractors, including the handling of upset or hostile individuals in a professional manner.
Ability to accurately and efficiently process fees and records.
Basic computer skills required and ability to learn to effectively operate reservation and email software.
Thorough knowledge and familiarity with assigned county park.
Knowledge of power equipment, light machinery, tools and cleaning materials and their use.
Knowledge of park administration policies, procedures, rules, laws and regulations and ability to relate same to the public and other park staff, and to effectively enforce same.
Basic carpentry and handyman knowledge.
General understanding of electrical, plumbing and heating system and equipment.
General understanding of safety related to electricity, cleaning chemicals, power equipment and general maintenance work.
Ability to follow directions, drawings, plans or prints to carry out a project.
Ability to direct and oversee work crews to complete a project according to plans, requirements or needs.
Ability to understand and effectively carry out instructions and work with little supervision.
Ability to maintain efficient and organized records.
Meet requirements of Dodge County Driver Qualification Policy.
Word processing and spread sheet experience helpful.
Ability to work independently and honestly.
High school diploma or GED equivalent and minimum of two (2) years experience in customer service, general office, maintenance and/or camping. Experience in general grounds, building and equipment maintenance, camping, and custodial work is preferred. Some lead person or supervisory experience preferred. Equivalent combination of education and experience which provides necessary knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.
Handles calls and correspondence directed to the park. Substantial outdoor work; may be subject to temperature extremes, windy, wet weather and night and early morning conditions. Works in varied terrain and vegetation; wooded areas, fields, steep topography, wet areas. Some work may be done under shelters or in shop with slight protection from the weather. May be exposed to periodic intense noise. May be exposed to hazards such as mechanical, electrical, chemicals and heights. Flexible work hours based on individual park needs and usage, but must be available to work most weekend nights during the season and be on call when in the park or when assigned. May have necessity to deal with upset or hostile individuals.
