(Cambria) A Didion Milling employee reported missing was found dead at the Cambria facility Tuesday. Columbia County authorities received a call just after 9am for an unaccounted-for employee. Sheriff Roger Brandner says the initial reports were that the missing person was working in or around a corn silo in a confined space and now could not be located.
The Cambria Fire Department, Friesland Fire Department and Pardeeville EMS were dispatched to the mill and began search and rescue efforts. Brandner says after numerous hours of searching, the employee was found inside one of the corn bins deceased. The employee was identified as a 52-year-old male from Waupun. His name is being withheld pending notification of family.
The incident remains under investigation by the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Assisting at the scene was the Portage Fire Department, Divine Savior/Aspirus EMS, Lifestar EMS, UW Medflight, Columbia County Emergency Management, The Salvation Army, City of Portage Department of Public Works and the City of Columbus Department of Public Works.
