(Brownsville) The Safest Way Tour stopped at Michels Corporation in Brownsville Wednesday to tout the Line 5 relocation project. The $450-million-dollar proposed project in Ashland, Bayfield, and Iron Counties is estimated to create over 700 Wisconsin construction jobs.
The projectโs scope includes moving Line 5, a pipeline that carries propane and other energy supplies for the upper Midwest, following a 2019 lawsuit filed by the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians.
Michels Corporation has been selected as the mainline contractor. The companyโs President and CEO Pat Michels says the project will inject millions in the stateโs economy and ensure the energy needs of the region continues to flow.
The Line 5 relocation project is expected to add $135-million-dollars to Wisconsinโs economic output, increase state tax revenues, and support more than 1,000 jobs. The event in Brownsville was part of a three-day, four-city swing for the Safest Way Tour.
