Bob was born August 1, 1935 in Reeseville, WI to Arnold and Elizabeth (Bleifuss) Henke and he grew up in the Reeseville, Beaver Dam and Horicon areas. Bob met his wife, Carol Astin at a dance in Helenville, WI in 1957. They were married on July 27, 1958 in Helenville. They lived in Horicon all their lives and raised three children, Karen, Rhonda & Ronald “Ron”.
Bob was a farmer all of his life, starting on his parents’ family farm when he was young and continuing until the fall of 2018 when his health began to fail. Shortly after he married Carol, they bought the farm from his parents. Together they ran a successful dairy herd operation of Holstein cattle, heifers, and calves, along with raising crops for their cattle. In 1990, they decided to “take it a little easier” by auctioning off the dairy portion of the farm and becoming cash crop farmers, growing corn, soybeans, and grass hay. Carol was always helping on the farm until her passing on December 20, 2009.
Bob enjoyed watching sports at home, especially his favorite sports teams, the Green Bay Packers & Wisconsin Badgers. He also enjoyed horses and passed this passion down to his daughter, Karen. Several years ago as a widower he adopted a long haired dachshund named Brownie from the Dodge County Humane Society. It was quite amazing how Brownie picked him when she went and sat between his feet when they first meet. I guess he couldn’t say no after that. They shared an amazing bond together. Bob was a long time member of Trinity Church-United Methodist in Beaver Dam.
Survivors include his daughter, Karen Hanson of Horicon, grandchildren, Samantha (Justin) Thiede of Fond du Lac, Timothy Frank (fiancée, Georgia Roth) of Beaver Dam, Zachary and Samuel Henke of Brentwood, CA, great grandchildren, Austin, Lucas, Ava and Colton Thiede and Zoe Byers Frank. He is also survived by other family and friends including his nephew, James (Jim) Henning, who helped him out on the farm when needed over the years. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold & Elizabeth Henke, spouse, Carol Henke, daughter and son, Rhonda Frank & Ron Henke, both in the year 2000.
The family would like to thank Hillside HomeCare/Hospice for the care and compassion they provided to Bob in his home and a special thank you to his Home Care & Hospice nurse, Valerie White.
