The Rio girls basketball team heads to Albany for a WIAA Division Five Sectional Semifinal on Thursday night. The tip is set for 7pm.
The Vikings (13-6) were given the #3 seed in the Sectional after knocking off Oakfield 66-55 in last Saturday’s Regional Final. Rio has three players who score in double figures in senior Adeline Hutzler (14.8), sophomore Emily Loging (11.8), and junior Kayla Staveness (11.3).
Albany (18-2) is the #2 seed in the Sectional after downing Barneveld 48-34 in last Saturday’s Regional Final. The Comets only two losses this season came to #1 ranked Black Hawk. Junior Brianna Dahl leads Albany in scoring at 16.2 points per game. The Comets were ranked #3 in the final Wissports.net D5 Coaches Poll.
Rio and Albany squared off in the Regional Semifinals on February 22nd, 2019 with the Vikings picking up a 56-50 road win. Jordyn Hutzler scored 28 to pace Rio while Brianna Dahl had 15 to lead the Comets.
The other side of the Sectional Bracket features #1 ranked Black Hawk hosting Almond-Bancroft.
