(Beaver Dam) The reconstruction of a short stretch of North Spring Street in Beaver Dam is complete, on-time and on-budget. The project from Maple Avenue to Mackie Street got under way in early June. Advance Construction of Green Bay was awarded the $1.47-million-dollar contract that includes widening of the roadway to accommodate bike lanes and a center turn lane along with new concrete pavement, curb and gutter, sidewalk and water main, sanitary and storm sewer installation. City Director of Facilities Ritchie Piltz says crews unearthed some century-old brick underneath layers of asphalt. Landscaping and signage still need to be finalized and completion is planned in mid-September.The reconstruction was funded in part with a $742-thousand-dollar grant administered though the state DOT. The city’s water and wastewater utilities in picking up another $400-thousand dollar’s for underground infrastructure upgrades. That leaves roughly $400-thousand dollars in borrowed money levied directly to city taxpayers.
