Retired Slinger Band Director Convicted Of Child Assault

(Slinger) It took a jury in Washington County less than two hours yesterday to convict a retired Slinger High School band director of felony Sexual Assault of a Student By School Staff. The verdict was handed down against David Hanke on day three of his sexual assault trial. The incident occurred in September of 2000 during which he had sexual contact with an underage female band student that he had invited to his home. It was learned in court this week that during his tenure as the band director, Hanke frequently massaged the neck and shoulders of junior and senior high school girls in his office. He faces up to ten years in prison when he is sentenced in June.
