10/9/17 – Reservations are now being accepted for the Beaver Dam Unified School District’s Wall of Fame banquet next month. Emmy-award winning journalist and best-selling author Mary Pflum Peterson will be recognized as an ‘outstanding alumni.’ The outstanding alumni award honors graduates who have attained exceptional accomplishments in their field of work. Wall of Fame Committee Member Mary Posthuma says, when notified, Pflum Peterson was honored despite her long list of career achievements. She says even though she won multiple Emmy’s, several Edward R. Murrow awards, and a Writer’s Guild she was still humbled when finding out about her selection into the Wall of Fame.
As a reporter, Pflum Peterson covered war zones in Afghanistan, presidential elections, and the Oscars, interviewing politicians, world leaders, and movie stars. She was a producer on ABC’s Good Morning America before joining NBC’s Today Show last year. In 2015, she published the critically-acclaimed New York Times best-seller, “White Dresses: A Memoir of Love and Secrets, Mothers and Daughters,” which shares the message of the complicated lives of three generations in her family.
Last week on WBEV’s Community Comment, Committee Member Bev Beal-Loeck explained why people should attend the Wall of Fame banquet. She says you can take the girl out of the hometown but you cannot take the hometown out of the girl and it behooves the hometown to show up and give her the credit she deserves. Because of referendum construction at the high school, the dinner will take place at Old Hickory Golf Club on November 5. The reception begins at 4:30pm and the awards ceremony will take place at 6:00pm. Reservations cost $25 per person and the deadline to sign up is October 25th. Forms can be found on Beaver Dam’s School District website at www.bdusd.org.
