(Horicon) A recent report shows that the Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center contributes more than $8-million-dollars to the local economy. The report is the result of the Office of Outdoor Recreation’s Do-It-Yourself Economic Impact Report program, an innovative pilot program to assist outdoor stakeholders in documenting the local value of outdoor recreation.
The Horicon Marsh was one of just five outdoor destinations examined as part of the pilot program. The Office partnered with The Harbinger Consultancy to provide technical assistance for the Do-It-Yourself Economic Impact Report program. The five teams were selected through a competitive application process and participated in a series of workshops to kick off the program.
The teams then examined existing data, performed additional surveys and research and analyzed the results to produce estimates on the value of the five outdoor destinations being studied.
Dodge County Land Resources and Parks Department Project Lead Morgan Muche says by using this data and collaborating with community partners, they are excited to position the county as a top destination for visitors and investors alike.
