9/8/12 – There is a special tribute in Beaver Dam this weekend to the families of American servicemen and women killed while serving our country. They are Gold Star Families and they’ve been the theme of two complimentary events that kicked off Friday night. “Remembering Our Fallen” is a traveling photo exhibit featuring the approximately 130 Wisconsin warriors who made the ultimate sacrifice in Iraq and Afghanistan. A Gold Star Family arranged to have the exhibit in Beaver Dam. Greg and Barb Gassen lost their son Jacob 22 months ago. Greg says it’s been part of the healing process to be involved with such a moving and special tribute. Donations are being accepted to help defray the $800 cost of hosting the exhibit. Any additional funds would be directed to www.dryhootch.org, a non-profit dedicated to helping veterans transition home. Volunteers are also needed to staff the exhibit at Peace Lutheran Church; it runs 9am to 9pm Saturday and 9am to 6pm Sunday. “Remembering Our Fallen” debuted in mid-July and the Gassen’s were pressed for time in getting the exhibit to town; they wanted to hold it in conjunction with the American Hero’s Music Festival, which is held right down the street at Swan City Park.
