9/7/12 – A special exhibit that recognizes the sacrifices of Wisconsin soldiers will be on display this weekend in Beaver Dam in conjunction with the American Hero’s Music Festival. It is called “Remembering Our Fallen” and it highlights the lives of the almost 130 servicemen and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice in defending this country overseas. The parents of Army Private-First Class Jacob Gassen arranged for the exhibit to travel to Beaver Dam. His father Greg Gassen says the display includes military and personal pictures. Gassen says his family attended the exhibit opening in Madison with the parents of First Lt. David Johnson of Mayville, who died in January. He says they have also formed a special bond with the families of Pfc. Ryan Cantafio and Sgt. Kirk Straseskie, the other Gold Star families from Beaver Dam. The exhibit “Remembering Our Fallen” will be at Beaver Dam’s Peace Lutheran Church – that’s the church behind Walgreens — through Sunday. There will be a special opening ceremony today at 4:30pm and the public is encouraged to attend. There is no charge but donations will be accepted. The Gassen family paid the $800 cost out-of-pocket to bring the exhibit to Beaver Dam.
