Regions Jobless Filings Low But Increasing

(Dodge County) Jobless numbers in the region are low overall but increasing. Unemployment filings in Dodge County were at three percent last month, up three-tenths from November and above the 2.4-percent reported in December of 2018. Columbia County was also at three percent, up four-tenths from the previous month. Jefferson County notched up three-tenths over the two-month period to 2.9-percent while Fond du Lac County went up two-tenths to 2.7-percent. Washington County, which is tied with Ozaukee County for the second lowest rate in the state, recorded a 2.5-percent in both November and December. Green Lake County is up nearly a full percentage point to 4.2-percent. Dane County had the lowest rate in the state at 2.5-percent while Bayfield had the highest at 6.7-percent. In total, unemployment declined or stayed the same in nine of the state’s 72 counties. Wisconsin’s seasonally adjusted jobless rate edged up one-tenth to 3.4-percent while the national rate held steady at 3.5-percent.
