Regional Jobless Numbers Continue To Improve

(Dodge County) Jobless claims continue to see improvement throughout the region in the month of April.

The state Department of Workforce Development says the unemployment rate in Dodge County was 1.8-percent in the fourth month of 2023 which is down from the 2.2-percent the county saw in March. Last year, the number was 2.4-percent. Dodge County jumped eight spots in the statewide unemployment ranking to ninth.

Columbia County improved its figure by one-tenth of a percent, going to 1.9-percent. The number last year was 2.4-percent.

Jefferson County’s unemployment rate was also 1.9-percent last month, a four-tenths of a percent improvement over the figure they reported in March. In 2022, it was 2.4-percent.

Fond du Lac County went from 2.1-percent in March to 1.9-percent in April. A year ago, that figure was 2.2-percent.

For the third straight month, statewide unemployment numbers hit a record low at 2.4-percent. The latest jobs report also notes that Wisconsin added 3,800 jobs over the last month and over 50,000 jobs over the past 12 months. The state’s unemployment number now sits a full percentage point under the national rate.
