Recovery Rally Is Saturday In Madison

(Madison) An event in Madison Saturday is intended to offer help to those struggling with addiction while celebrating those who are in recovery. The Sixth Annual Rally For Recovery is on the steps of the capitol, at State Street.

Speakers include former Wisconsin Badger Montee Ball, who will share the circumstances around his recovery, along with Lee Turner who will be performing and speaking. Turner, a Horicon-native, is the guitar player for Darius Rucker of Hootie and the Blowfish. Ryan Hampton a nationally-touring addiction speaker who had worked in the Clinton White House. Jessie Geschke, with Wisconsin Voices for Recovery, says Hampton has been a huge help to her 13-year-old son Kellen, who has seen the challenges and successes of recovery first-hand from a relative.

Saturday’s event will include dozens of informational booths on resources for those battling addiction and going through recovery. There will also be training to administer Narcan, the drug that counteracts an opioid overdose. The Rally for Recovery is on the State Street steps of the capitol beginning at 11am Saturday and running until 3pm.
