(Randolph) A Randolph native has joined the coaching staff of the Minnesota Timberwolves. Greg Stiemsma lead Randolph High School to three straight Division 4 State Titles as a sophomore, junior and senior while earning all-state honors. From 2004 to 2008, Stiemsma played in 95 games for the Wisconsin Badgers.
The 6-11 center went undrafted out of college then went on to play for the Boston Celtics, Minnesota Timberwolves, New Orleans Pelicans and finished his professional career in 2015 in the Toronto Raptors. Stiemsma says he got his real estate license a year-and-a-half ago but he wanted something different. He says he started to search out coaching opportunities and that was when Timberwolves Head Coach Ryan Saunders reached out. He says Saunders asked him to take part in their mini-camp in June and a few weeks later offered the entry level position with the organization.
Stiemsma explains his responsibilities as a player development associate. He says he does a little bit of everything from serving as a scout team during practice, to guarding Karl-Anthony Towns one-on-one as well as help players with their jump shot.
Stiemsma says he hopes to continue to progress along the coaching ranks and that it can spring board into other opportunities down the road.
