Randolph Excited To Play Ball

The Randolph baseball team is ready to get back on the diamond in the Badgerland Summer High School League.  Randolph was supposed to open up their season on Monday night in Rosendale, but Mother Nature washed that game out.  They now will have to wait until July 2nd at Hartford to throw the first pitch on their season.

Head Coach Jared Spors tells DailyDodge.com that his players were missing baseball after then WIAA and American Legion seasons were cancelled and they are excited to get back out there and play.  Coach Spors says that he will have 19 players on his roster which was enough for one team, but not quite enough for two.  His roster is made up of players from Randolph High School, Faith Christian, Central Wisconsin Christian and Cambria-Friesland.   Sam Leystra of Cambria-Friesland was the lone senior from the class of 2020 that is on the team.

With no baseball this spring, coach Spors says it took a few practices to shake off the cobwebs, but his team is ready to play ball.  With limited prep time, pitching will be a key and he says about half of the players on his roster can be used on the mound.   He says getting the season going was big for his young team because going a full year without any baseball reps would be difficult.  Randolph’s goals for this year are to compete, have fun and get everyone in the game.

Randolph will play all of their games at Randolph High School.  As for safety, they will sanitize equipment after each time its used.  He says only five or six players will be allowed in the dugout at the same time and each team will use their own baseballs.  He says that instead of a post-game handshake, the teams will just give a tip of the cap and be on their way.   Fans will bring their own chairs and are encouraged to wear masks.

Randolph will play a 14-game schedule with two to three games per week in the month of July.
