The Randolph Rockets head to Cuba City on Thursday night for a WIAA Division Five Sectional Semifinal at 7pm.
Randolph (Overall: 22-3, Trailways West: 7-0) ride a seven game winning streak into tonight’s Sectional Semifinal. The Trailways West champs are led by one of the most dominant post players in the area in junior Travis Alvin (18.2ppg, 10.5rpg). Seniors Sam Grieger (16.8) and Brayden Haffele (10.5) also score in double digits for the Rockets. Randolph rolled to the Regional championship with lopsided wins over Waterloo (90-51) and Deerfield (77-57). The Rockets were bumped up from Division Five to Division 4 because of the pandemic and were ranked #8 in the final Wissports.net Division 4 Coaches Poll.
Cuba City (Overall: 22-2, SWAL: 12-2) led by legendary coach Jerry Petigoue were ranked #1 in the final Wissports.net Division 4 Coaches Poll and finished runner-up in the SWAL behind league champ Darlington. The Cubans have five players that average in double figures led by senior UW-Green Bay recruit Brayden Dailey (23.8ppg). Senior Jack Misky (19.1), junior Carter Olson (14.2), sophomore Max Lucey (11.1) and senior Riley Richard (10.7) also score in double figures. Cuba City breezed through their Regional with wins over Parkview (119-59) and Mineral Point (73-49).
Randolph’s last loss came back on January 30th at Cuba City 76-53. Jack Misky led the Cubans with 25 while Travis Alvin led the Rockets with 16.
The winner of Thursday night’s game will play either Fennimore or The Prairie School in the D5 Sectional Final on Saturday with a trip to state on the line.
