Proposed Ordinance Would Make Parents Liable For Child’s Bullying

(Beaver Dam) The Beaver Dam Administrative Committee Monday night advanced a bullying ordinance on to the full common council. The ordinance would seek to reduce bullying by making parents liable for the behavior of their children. Police Chief John Kreuziger says if approved, his department would be able to better address bullying that occurs on school grounds, in addition to incidents that happen away from school grounds or even online. The ordinance would afford parents up to 90 days to get the behavior under control. The penalties would be determined by the municipal court judge and could be monetary. The ordinance change will be considered by the council next month.
