Prescribed Burn Monday At Horicon National Wildlife Refuge

(Horicon) If you are seeing smoke near the marsh in Dodge County, it’s because of a prescribed burn on the west side of the Horicon National Wildlife Refuge. US Fish and Wildlife officials say the spring burn helps control invasive grasses and will spur greening as spring weather makes its return to the area. There are 21 firefighters from Horicon, Necedah and Leopold along with Michigan, Minnesota and Texas handling the effort. The public is being asked to stay away from the area and there is signage prohibiting entry in some locations and indicating that there is a prescribed burn underway.
