Today Horicon hosted the H-Town Throw Down dual tournament. The Marshmen started out with a tight battle against Waterloo, defeating them 36 to 33. Next, they took on Laconia where the Marshmen came back from an early deficit, to defeat Laconia 39 to 30. The Marshmen’s next opponent was Elkhart Lake/Howard Grove, where the Marshmen overcame their opponent by a score of 48 to 18. The Marshmen then took on New Holstein, where they cruised their way to a 48 to 24 victory. The Marshmen had their final dual of the day against Kenosha Christian Life.  They fought hard, but came up short of a victory – losing 35 to 46. The Marshmen are back in action next Saturday at  Beaver Dam for the Wickersham memorial tournament. – Horicon Coach Joe Kern

Gymnastics

Watertown Goslings Gymnasts took 2nd today at Ocon varsity invite-gold division.

We had so many Team positives today!  We had a great team attitude today and supported each other throughout the meet.  The girls are learning how to pick each other up and encourage each other.

Round 1 bye

Round 2 bars- All No stops or extra swing on our routines today.  Overall our bar sets today where better than last Tuesday and we hit 30 as a team!!  Junior Aveline Jacob has been working hard on her form and added a layout dismount today.  Sophomore Paige Petig worked to add a free/clear hip on the high bar today so that her hips don’t touch the bar to increase her value. Junior Mikaylah Fessler also had a nice swinging set today, she had been working on her free/clear hip and handstand. Senior Meghan Hurtgen had a solid routine today as she’s getting back into the groove of her routine. 1st place Hurtgen

Round 3 beam

We easily still have 3 points to earn on beam if we just stay on and make our jump connections.  Seniors Meghan Hurtgen and Ella Faltersack both had no fall beam routines today.  We are going to drill full sets so we can have a great beam day next week.  3rd Hurtgen

4 bye

Round 5 floor

This is always our favorite and shining event.  As a team we didn’t do so good on beam but I was so happy to see everyone was pumped and ready for floor, they didn’t let beam carry over.  Junior Mikayla Dehnert made her new floor pass of a front layout. Junior Aveline Jacob does a layout half in her first pass and Freshman Sammy Knight does a full in her first pad, they were both so high and had so much power they fell out of it.  Time for Jacob to do a full and Knight to do a 1.5 twist. Seniors Lauryn Olson and Meghan Hurtgen had dazzling and fun routines, they did great ending us on floor.

3rd place Hurtgen, 5th Olson

Round 6 vault

Junior Mikaylah Fessler, Junior Aveline Jacob, and Senior Lauryn Olson all threw nice half halves.  Freshman Sammy Knight got to compete for her first meet and threw her tsuk on vault.  She landed on her feet but had so much power she piked under and took a fall so realistically she will be scoring mid to high 8s once she gets comfortable.  Senior Meghan Hurtgen landed her yurchenko on her feet.  4th place Jacob, 2nd place Hurtgen

All around –

1st place Hurtgen

6th Jacob

We have lots to work on and improve on yet but we had a fun day at Oconomowoc. – Head Coach Jenna Wendt
