Pre-Plant Workshop Scheduled for April

(Juneau) With warmer temperatures and vanishing snow, it means spring planting is right around the corner.  Dodge County’s Farmers for Healthy Soil – Healthy Water is here to help you prepare with an informational meeting on how to handle compaction and ruts for the coming spring.  Francisco Arriaga, an Assistant Professor at the UW Madison Department of Soil Science, will discuss how to reduce soil compaction during the spring using no-till and cover crops.  Additionally, those in attendance will hear from local farmers including host Richard Wondra, on how reducing tillage and using cover crops on their land has led to numerous soild health benefits including the reduction or elimination of soil compaction and ruts.  This free event is open to the public, with pre-registration requested.

The event will be held on Wednesday, April 3rd from noon till 3pm at the Richard Wondra Farm at N10511 County Rd YY in Lomira.  The event will start with a free lunch and end with an open socialization time after the event.
