The Beaver Dam Post 146 American Legion baseball team knocked off West Salem 7-1 in their 19U AA State Tournament opener on Friday night in West Salem. Post 146 scored three times in the first inning and two runs each in the 5th and 6th frame. Jeff Freund and Jerek Westover did it at the plate and on the hill for Post 146. Freund went 3×4 with a triple, RBI and 2 runs scored while Westover was 3×4 with two run homer, 3 RBI and 2 runs scored. Freund got the start, striking out three and giving up just one hit in two and two thirds scoreless innings of work. Westover fanned five and gave up just three hits over three and a third scoreless innings to earn the win. West Salem scored their only run in the bottom of the 7th inning.
Post 146 (18-4) will face Onalaska (19-8) in the 2nd round of the tournament at 6:30pm on Saturday night. Onalaska blanked Fort Atkinson 7-0 in their opener on Friday. You can hear the game on 1430 ESPN Beaver Dam. With the opening round win, Post 146 White Construction will play again on Sunday, win or lose.
