Portage Fire Department Recognizes Several Of The Agencies Finest

(Portage) The Portage Fire Department recently recognized several of their agencies finest. The department handed out several awards including Officer of the Year which went to Captain Mark Bublitz.

Fire Chief Troy Haase says over the course of 2022, Bublitz has supported the department’s mission and values as well as demonstrated his exemplary performance in the field.

Firefighter of the Year was awarded to Cody Kamrowski for supporting others’ efforts to achieve the goals of the fire department, embracing policy and procedures, and engaging in constructive criticism that will lead to improvements in the industry.

Chief Haase and Engineer Josh Meyer were chosen for the Unit Citation Award. Both were recognized for their efforts in rescuing a person lost in the woods for over eight hours last January.

Two Top Responder of the Year awards were handed out, one to Lieutenant Brian Bonovetz and the other to Austin Smothers.

The department also had 12 members receive Response Commendation awards for responding to 40-percent or more of calls for service over the last year.
