Portage Fire Department Helps Cleanup Diesel Fuel Spill

(Portage) The Portage Fire Department responded to a diesel fuel leak Wednesday. Fire Chief Troy Haase says when they arrived at Jots Food Mart just after 4pm, they found a large pool of diesel fuel that was partially covered with oil dry.

A store employee reported that a delivery truck had a problem with the transfer of fuel and spilled about 80 gallons of it on the ground. Haase says employees tried to contain the spill with oil dry, but it had spread too far. Firefighters kept the spill from spreading in a nearby grassy area and secured the scene until cleanup crews could help with removal.

Wisconsin DNR officials and the Columbia County Emergency Management assisted at the scene to make appropriate calls to start mitigation. There were no injuries reported.
