(Portage) Authorities in Portage rescued two juveniles who fell through the ice on the Wisconsin River Thursday afternoon. First responders with the police and fire departments as well as Aspirus Devine Savior EMS responded to the 700 block of West Edgewater Street around 5:30pm. Upon arrival, officers found a 12-year-old approximately 20 to 30 yards out on the ice, with a second juvenile who had fallen in close to shore and was rescued quickly. The juvenile who was further out was able to pull themselves onto a solid portion of ice. Officers were able to utilize a throw-able rescue device with a rope attached which the juvenile used to wrap around their body and was pulled back safely to shore. EMS took both juveniles to a local hospital for precautionary measures.
