7/10/17 – Construction of James Street, the major east/west roadway through Columbus, has all but wrapped up phase one. City officials and representatives with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation say the stretch of road from River Road to Ludington Street is now open to traffic. City Administrator Patrick Vander Sanden says a few details need to be finished up such as street lighting. The focus now shifts to phase two which consists of Ludington/Highway 73 going west. The middle of October is the scheduled completion date for phase two with the goal of having the majority of work done by then barring any weather complications. He advises those who do not often travel to Columbus to avoid James Street. Vander Sanden says with through traffic there have been plenty of measures taking to keep them out of residential and neighboring areas. He says several DOT representatives will attend their next council meeting to provide an overview of the project.
