PAVE: October Is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

(Beaver Dam) October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and a Beaver Dam-based non-profit is marking the occasion by raising awareness. PAVE, People Against a Violent Environment, provides shelter to those who have experienced abuse. During an appearance on WBEV’s Community Comment yesterday, Children and Teen Advocate Amanda Meixner shared the organizations 2017 statistics. She says there was 4,077 nights of shelter at PAVE, 772 clients were assisted and over 3,800 individuals contacted them. The 2018 numbers are on pace with last year. The shelter has 18 beds and houses family’s morning, noon and night. PAVE Director of Services Jess Tiffany says they are always in need of supplies including diapers size two and three, baby wipes, body and paper towels, garbage bags and dish soap. Tiffany says it is never easy for a victim of domestic to come forward and seek help. She suggests contacting their text line because it can be easier than speaking face to face. PAVE’s texting hotline number is 920-344-0123. You can also call their crises line at 800-775-3785.
