(Beaver Dam) The Patriot Tour is moving into in Iowa today, two days after launching from downtown Beaver Dam. The non-profit Nation of Patriots coordinates the journey that sees multiple motorcycle riders carry one American flag, city-to-city, through all 48 continental states. Bill Sherer founded the organization a decade ago after hearing stories of hardship from friends who are veterans.
During the opening ceremony on Saturday morning, Sherer took a moment to thank those who have supported his mission over the past ten years. He says he is proud of the people involved and everything they accomplished over the years. Before departing, Sherer shared some encouraging words for the riders of the Patriot Tour. He told the motorcyclists that when they ride, they ride as a Nation of Patriots and he is honored to have them by his side.
To date, the Patriot Tour has collected around $900-thousand dollars and Sherer says the goal is to eclipse the $1-million-dollar mark during this year’s journey. The organization has already raised $6,500 dollars in honor of a long-time volunteer who recently passed away after battling cancer.
The ride will return to Beaver Dam on Saturday, September 7 at Swan Park. More information, donor opportunities, photos, video and a complete Patriot Tour schedule can be found at http://www.nationofpatriots.com
