(Beaver Dam) A Beaver Dam bar and grill has been temporarily closed due to a fire. The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office received a report around 11:46pm Tuesday night of a sprinkler flow alarm at Park Avenue Sports Café.
Within in a minute, a deputy from the sheriff’s office reported that there was an active fire on the roof. The Beaver Dam Fire Department responded immediately and found smoke coming from the building as well as a fire in the vent system.
Fire Chief Michael Wesle says first arriving crews simultaneously performed a primary search of the restaurant and gained access to the roof. Firefighters were able to locate a cleaning crew on site and ensure the building was no longer occupied. At the same time, firefighters extinguished flames in the hood system on the roof.
Wesle says further investigation revealed a small fire in the truss system above the ceiling tiles. He says a sprinkler head in the rear of the kitchen had activated and prevented the fire from spreading. The fire department remained on scene for two hours performing salvage and overhaul. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
Park Avenue Sports Café management posted on Facebook that there is no word yet on when the business will re-open. A GoFundMe has been started to assist the family and staff. Organizers with the fundraiser say this is financially devastating for the individuals and families dependent on their Park Avenue employment, especially during this holiday season.
