Ohio Teen Facing 73 Counts Of Delinquency From Dodge County Swatting Incident

(Beaver Dam) Nearly a year later, an Ohio teen is facing 40 felony counts of delinquency stemming from a Dodge County swatting incident. On March 22, 2018 authorities were dispatched after what turned out to be false reports of a shooting with hostages taken at a residence near Highway 151 and Forest Road in the Town of Westford. Dodge County Sheriff’s Office Detective Andrew Rolfs worked in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies from around the country to identify the suspect as a 17-year-old juvenile from Youngstown, Ohio. The investigation revealed similar incidents occurred around the United States and that the phone calls originated from Mahoning County, Ohio. Sheriff Dale Schmidt says the Mahoning County Prosecutor’s Office is handling all charges related to these crimes. The juvenile, whose name is not being released to the public, is also facing 33 misdemeanors. Schmidt says it is his hope that the resolution of this case will dissuade others from trying this type of activity. Adding that the individual involved believed he would get away with inciting fear in the Dodge County community but now faces significant repercussions. Schmidt says Detective Rolfs deserves a great deal of credit for his hard work in resolving the case.
