(Dodge County) Dodge County skies will be filled with a bit more air traffic as the annual Northern Lightning Counterland exercise begins Monday. Northern Lightning is a tactical-level, joint training exercise replicating today’s air battle space with current and future weapons platforms.
A variety of the world’s most advanced aircraft including the F-35, F-22, and F-16 will participate in the exercise which is based out of Volk Field at Camp Douglas. There will also be nearly one-thousand personnel from approximately 20 active duty Air Force, National Guard, Navy, and Marine Corps units on hand.
Northern Lightning is one of seven Air National Guard joint accredited exercises held at a Combat Readiness Training Center at Volk Field.
Those living in Dodge, Columbia, Fond du Lac, and Green Lake counties can anticipate increased military flight operations in the airspace until the training ends on August 19th.
