(Madison) It’s almost time for hunters across the state to head out for the nine-day gun deer hunting season which opens Saturday November 23 and runs through Sunday December 1.
This is the latest nine-day window within which the season may occur as established by state law. With this year’s season starting further from the peak of breeding activity, fewer deer activity may be on the move to move relative to recent years with earlier openers.
There is optimism that with factors like colder temperatures and snow cover could still create deer hunting conditions because of last year’s mild winter. As of midnight on October 29, year-to-date sales for gun, bow, crossbow, sports and patroon licenses reached 444,743 with 123,861 of them being gun privileges only.
All harvested deer must be registered electronically by 5pm or the day after the deer is recovered. They can be registered online, by phone at 1-844-426-3734, or in person at any of the in-person registration stations. Some safety tips for hunting include treating every firearm as if it is loaded, always pointing the muzzle in a safe direction, and knowing what your target is what is before it and what is beyond it.
Hunters must also ensure 50 percent of clothing above the waste is blaze orange. Mor information can be found in the links below.
