News – October 15, 2024

(Watertown) The Wisconsin State Patrol arrested a Watertown man for his Fifth Offense Operating While under the Influence. A state trooper stopped a Chevrolet on Interstate 94 eastbound near Highway 26 early Sunday morning. Officials with the state patrol say the suspect vehicle was observed driving well in excess of the posted 70-mile-per-hour speed limit. They add that as the trooper approached the vehicle, they detected indicators of alcohol use. The driver, reportedly identified as 37-year-old Jordan Stiemke, was taken into custody following standardized field sobriety tests.ย 

(Jefferson) One person was killed in a single vehicle crash in the town of Jefferson Saturday. Jefferson County sheriffโ€™s deputies were called to the scene on County Highway N around 12:48am. The preliminary investigation shows that the vehicle was traveling southbound on N when it failed to negotiate a curve and left the roadway. The vehicle then struck a tree and overturned before coming to a rest upright. The driver of the truck and its lone occupant was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash is still under investigation. 

(Fond du Lac County)ย A Fond du Lac County woman and three teens are accused of a poaching rampage that also took place in parts of Dodge County. DNR wardens and Fond du Lac County prosecutors say the 36-year-old Campbellsport woman and three teens killed over 100 deer between last spring and July of this year. The four were allegedly shining deer at night and shooting them, and also intentionally striking deer with vehicles. Deputies say the group would post videos and selfies with injured deer, often letting them suffer for several hours. Multiple charges are being filed, including mistreatment of animals, obstruction, and various hunting violations.ย – WRN

(Portage) A house was damaged by fire caused by a lightning strike in Portage over the weekend. Portage Fire Rescue was dispatched to 506 West Cook Street around 3:30pm Saturday. All residents of the home evacuated safely and one animal was rescued, but a couple other animals were lost in the fire. The lightning strike also caused homes in the vicinity to lose power and encounter electrical breaker panel concerns. There were no firefighter injuries reported.ย 

(Watertown) The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train will make several stops across Wisconsin in early December, including a few within our listening area. The trainโ€™s schedule shows 13 stops in the state. On December 8th, the holiday train will stop at Watertownโ€™s Brandt Quirk Park at 8pm. It will then depart for Columbus, arriving at the Amtrak Depot at 359 North Ludington Street atโ€ฏ9:15pm.
