(Columbus) The Columbus Police Department has made an arrest in a multi-state scam. Jay Sureshbhai Prajapati of Atlanta was charged in Columbia County with Receiving/Concealing Stolen Property. The 24-year-old allegedly attempted to scam an 80-year-old woman out of $60,000 but a bank in Columbus was able to stop the transaction and contact law enforcement. Authorities also learned that Prajapati scammed tens of thousands of dollars from victims in Iowa, Illinois, and Tennessee. Prajapati is being held in the Columbia County Jail on $20,000 cash bond.  

(Columbus) Just days before Columbus police arrested the man attempting to con a woman out of $60,000, a representative from a local financial institution joined Community Comment to discuss the dangers and warning signs of such scams. Shaina Hannaman is the bank secrecy act officer of Farmers and Merchants Union Bank in Columbus. She says scammers are becoming more brazen in recent years and will show up to your home to collect the cash.

(Columbus) The Columbus City Council approved the publishing advertisement for the 2025 budget. The next important date will be October 15th when the council and mayor get their first look at the budget with the option to incorporate any changes. A public hearing is scheduled for October 29th at 6:30pm. 

(Waupun) It is National Fire Prevention Month. This year’s national campaign strives to educate everyone about the importance of having working smoke alarms in the home. The Beaver Dam Fire Department does offer the ability to pick up a smoke detector at the station as well as free installation help if needed.

(Beaver Dam) Officials with the Beaver Dam Community Library say the fundraising campaign for their Next Chapter renovation is going strong. The library recently received a $5,000 donation from Dr. David and Andrea Utrie in memory of their son, Benjamin. Two separate $500 donations were made by Judith Sell and Judith Hein in honor of all the Beaver Dam past, present, and future readers. Library officials say their $40 for 40 Years social media day of giving on September 26 brought in $290 in cash.

(Beaver Dam) The Beaver Dam Chamber of Commerce Candidates’ Forum is tonight (Thursday). Chamber officials say this is an informative event that will feature the candidates for the Assembly District 37 and the Beaver Dam mayoral candidates. The forum will be aired live on Daily Dodge TV at 7pm at the Beaver Dam American Legion.
