(Juneau) Officials with Dodge County’s UW-Extension are sharing a few Thanksgiving food safety tips. Pattie Carroll, human development and relationship educator with the Extension, recommends cooking your Thanksgiving turkey to an internal temperature of 165-degrees and breast side up. She also encourages refrigerating leftovers within two hours. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, more than 46 million turkeys are cooked and eaten in the United States at Thanksgiving.

(Juneau) Holiday shopping is just around the corner, and the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office is reminding those who plan to hit the stores to be safe. Sheriff Dale Schmidt says that the most important thing when shopping is patience and says he has not seen anything criminal outside of the occasional shopping carts budging in line. He adds that if someone does get impatient and confrontational the best thing to do is walk away. He also suggests shoppers go later in the day to avoid the doorbuster rush.

(Wisconsin) This year’s opening weekend of the gun-deer season saw a slight decrease when compared to 2022. According to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, the first days of the nine-day hunt saw 92,050 deer registered. Over 103-thousand were harvested a year ago, a decrease of 16-percent, and 10-percent below the five-year average. DNR officials say a majority of the decrease was due to a decline in antlerless deer harvest, but note that usually picks up over the second half of the season.

(Beaver Dam) The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction recently released its report cards on all districts throughout the state. The report cards offer measures and indicators that provide school districts insight into areas to celebrate and those that need improvement. Overall performance at most sites within the Beaver Dam School District saw increases from the previous rating year. Superintendent Mark DiStefano says the district is pleased with the improvements that they have seen and will continue to use the data to provide the best education for all students. (Beaver Dam) A Beaver Dam man accused of having illicit content of children made his initial appearance in court. Chandler Semrau allegedly uploaded several images of child porn to Dropbox in 2022. When questioned, he allegedly said that he would visit a Discord server that would post illegal images. If convicted, the 25-year-old faces up to 200 years in prison. A signature bond was set at $1,000 and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for December 28th.
