(Washington County) A five-day jury trial was scheduled this week for a Horicon man accused of causing a crash that killed a pregnant woman and her one-year-old son in Washington County. Steven Bruskiewicz Jr. is facing four felony counts including Homicide by Negligent Operation of a Vehicle and Reckless Driving. According to authorities, an investigation into the June crash indicated that Bruskiewicz was engaged in using social media on his phone while driving when the 31-year-old struck another vehicle from behind. This resulted in the second impacted vehicle being pushed into oncoming traffic where it was struck by a third vehicle resulting in the death of a pregnant 30-year-old Mayville woman, her unborn child, and her one-year-old son. The other driver, a 67-year-old Waukesha man was also injured in the collision. The trial is slated to begin on October 9th.

(Randolph) Highway 33 was shut down yesterday (Friday) after a box truck left the roadway near the township of Randolph. Columbia County sheriff’s deputies were called to the scene on 33 near Krueger Road around 11:08am. Authorities say the truck hit the bridge abutment and rolled down a steep embankment to the railroad bed below. The two occupants of the vehicle were able to exit under their own power before being medically treated by EMS and transported to a local hospital. The crash remains under investigation.

(Madison) The public is encouraged to head to Madison tonight to greet veterans returning from a day in Washington D.C.  Today’s (Saturday’s) trip is the 45th for Badger Honor Flight. There are a total of 92 veterans on the flight including two veterans from Dodge County. The Honor Flight is part of a national system, including Alaska and Hawaii. Once the flight lands, the veterans will spend the day touring various sites including Arlington National Cemetery, the Lincoln Memorial, and the Iwo Jima, World War II, Korean and Vietnam monuments.Volunteer Jim Bublitz encourages the public to turn out at the Dane County Regional Airport tonight to give our veterans the welcome home ceremony they deserve. Badger Honor Flight serves Columbia, Dane, and Richland counties along with half of Dodge County.

(Beaver Dam) You will be seeing veterans handing out poppies throughout Beaver Dam today. The red poppy is a nationally recognized as a symbol of sacrifice since World War One and is meant to honor those who served and died for our country. All donations received are used for programs that support veterans, the military community and their families.

(Beaver Dam) The 34th Annual “Something Special From Wisconsin Breakfast” is being held tomorrow (Sunday) at the Beaver Dam High School.  Russ Kottke with the Beaver Dam Agri-Business Association says he’s got his big frying skillet ready and raring to go. The money raised from tomorrow’s (Sunday’s) breakfast is dedicated to the Beaver Dam FFA Scholarship Fund. Food is served from 8am to 12:30pm.  Tickets at the door cost $10 per adult and $5 for children 11-years-old and younger; kids under age five are free.

(Beaver Dam) The second Fair Food Festival of the year returns to the Dodge County Fairgrounds today (Saturday). Organizers say there will be ten food trucks pulling into Beaver Dam this weekend. They add that those who attend will be able to enjoy a diverse music lineup with an assortment of fair food offerings. The event goes from 11am to 7pm. Admission to the event and parking is free, guests only pay for the food that is purchased. The Dodge County Fair returns August 16th through the 20th.
