News – May 3, 2024

(Waupun) The Waupun Police Department, with assistance from the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office, conducted a mock crash this week for Waupun Area Junior and Senior High School Students. The presentation serves as an informative scenario to educate and teach students observing the response and coordination of first responders. Police Chief Jeremy Rasch says the department is joined by the Waupun Fire Department, Dodge County Sheriff’s Office, Lifestar ambulance, Flight for Life, and the school district for the presentation. 

(Waupun) The city of Waupun has released the results of a fire and emergency response staffing study. Call volume for fire and emergency medical response services has been rising with city data showing a decline in available responders and times that the contracted ambulance service was unavailable for 911 calls. The common council will next discuss the matter at their May 28th meeting. The full report can be viewed on the city’s website.

(Horicon) A Milwaukee man was found guilty of running from Horicon police. Roy Morgan fled from police after getting clocked speeding in January. His vehicle eventually lost control in a gravel parking lot due to wet and slushy conditions. The 32-year-old had a nine-month jail sentence imposed and stayed and was placed on probation for 18 months. 

(Beaver Dam) The city of Beaver Dam has an ordinance permitting the use of ATVs and UTVs on the streets that went into effect towards the end of last year. Beaver Dam Police Lieutenant Jeremiah Johnson says noise can be a problem due to people hot-rodding. He also would like to remind everyone to follow the rules of the road including maintaining a safe and reasonable control of vehicles, that includes ATVs and UTVs.  

(Beaver Dam) The Beaver Dam Community Library is hosting its 21st annual reading celebration next month. The event is taking place on May 4th from 10:30am until 12 noon. Attendees can get a photo with special guests representing the Wisconsin Garrison 501st Legion while also creating crafts and listening to a book read aloud. Refreshments will be provided for all who attend.
