(Columbus) The Columbus City Council discussed an amendment to an ordinance regarding the appeals process for the Historic Land and Preservation Committee. Director of Community and Economic Engagement Mike Kornmann says the amendment is straight forward and is just an add on. Alderwoman Molly Finkler was confused about the language because it is not what she remembers. City Attorney Paul Johnson says the ordinance is not being changed at all except adding on the appeals process. After some further discussion, the amendment was moved to the council for a final vote.
(Waupun) One man is in custody after a mental health incident in Waupun on Sunday morning. The Waupun Police Department was called to the 200 block of West Brown Street just after 7am for a report of a subject with a gun. The report says that that 39-year-old male was threatening suicide and retrieved a hunting rifle. Waupun police were able to assist a 41-year-old female and her child out of the residence. The man was later located at a different location and was unarmed. Fond du lac County Sheriff’s Department phone negotiators were able to talk with the man and he was taken into custody. The suspect was a convicted felon, disqualifying him from possessing a firearm. He was arrested for probation violation and was held at the Dodge County Jail.
(Madison) The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection has mailed out the 2024 Wisconsin Dairy Producers Survey to all licensed dairy producers in the state and asks that they be returned by the end of the month (June 30). The survey includes about 30 questions related to various topics including marketing, conservation practices, business structure, labor, and succession planning. Producers can complete the survey by returning the printed version using the postmarked return for mailing. They can also complete the survey online by scanning the QR code at the top right-hand corner of the first page of the printed version. (Beaver Dam) Local historian Roger Noll is presenting the second part of his Starkweather Film presentation at the Beaver Dam Community Library tomorrow (June 7) at 6:00pm. Noll’s presentation will feature home films shot in the 1940’s and 1950’s from late Beaver Dam filmmaker Charles Starkweather.
