(Springvale) One person died in a two-vehicle crash in the township of Springvale Wednesday morning. A northbound SUV on Highway M crossed the centerline around 8am and struck a southbound vehicle just north of Davis Road. The driver of the southbound vehicle, a 54-year-old Pine River man, was pronounced dead at the scene. The operator of the SUV, a 20-year-old woman from Brandon, was transported with minor injuries.

(Wisconsin) Transportation officials are calling for safer driving practices as deadly crashes rise in Wisconsin. So far, 209 people have been killed in crashes. That is 16 more deaths than at the same time last year. According to the state DOT website, there have been four fatalities in Dodge County through May 29th. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports crash deaths rose by 10.5-perecent in 2021, which was the largest ever annual percentage increase in the five decades the agency has collected fatal crash data.

(Juneau) The public will have an opportunity to get an inside look at the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office Friday. An open house is scheduled from 2pm to 6pm. The agency will be providing tours of the facility along with a walkthrough of the jail. There will be presentations made by members of the SWAT Team, the Crash Investigation Team, and the Recreation Patrol on their duties and responsibilities.

(Fond du Lac) Fond du Lac County Board Chairperson Sam Kaufman won Tuesday’s special election for county executive. Kaufman received just over 54-hundred votes while there were roughly one-thousand write-in votes. The special election was needed following the unexpected death of Fond du Lac County Executive Allen Buechel on March 27th. Kaufman will serve the remainder of Buechel’s term which runs until April of 2025.

(Dodge County) The price of gas in Wisconsin continues to go up. According to Triple-A’s Fuel Gauge, the average price for a galling of gas has risen to four-dollars, 91-cents. That mark is two-cents higher than Tuesday’s average, 36-cents higher than a week ago, and just over 80-cents more than last month. Dodge County’s gas is below the statewide average at four-dollars-and-eighty-one-cents a gallon.

(Wisconsin) Tony Evers called a special session of the legislature to repeal Wisconsin’s ban on abortions. The Democratic governor asks lawmakers in Madison to act on the 1849 statute prohibiting abortions in the state. In a statement, Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu said (quote) “Killing innocent babies is not healthcare,” and confirmed the Senate would gavel out of what he called a “blatantly political special session.” – WRN
