(Columbus) The state’s Department of Transportation says a section of State Highway 89 near the city of Columbus was closed this morning because of a barn fire. All lanes of the highway were closed between County Highways T and TV just north of Waterloo to allow crews to respond to the blaze. Firefighters arrived on scene around 3 am.
(Clyman) A Columbus man who was arrested in September at the Hardware Store in Clyman on prostitution charges was found guilty yesterday (Tuesday). Joseph Brown entered a no contest plea to a misdemeanor charge of Prostitution – Sexual Gratification. 26-year-old Shirley Quinn of Milwaukee was found guilty on similar charges in November for her role and was ordered to pay a $250 fine along with court costs. The sheriff was in full uniform while conducting a routine bar check at the establishment when he caught the two in the act. The 65-year-old Brown was ordered to pay over $1,500 in fines and court costs.
(Waupun) For allegedly hiding a 39-year-old Waupun woman wanted for reckless homicide in his apartment, a 65-year-old Waupun man is facing a Harboring a Felon charge. When police came looking for Cara Zech on February 5th Steven Bierman would not answer the door to his apartment. She was taken into custody after leaving the apartment. Bierman will make his initial appearance in Dodge County court on July 15th. If convicted, Bierman could face up to 10 years in prison. Zech and two others are being prosecuted in Fond du Lac County court for the drug overdose death of 23-year-old Steven Compton of Fond du Lac. He died in July of last year.
(Juneau) A Reeseville woman charged with bringing an illegal substance into the Dodge County Jail made her initial appearance in court yesterday (Tuesday). Katie Gamboeck allegedly brought heroin to a court appearance for the Treatment Alternatives and Diversion Program. Gamboeck was subsequently terminated from the program and was taken to jail. While in the same jail pod, another woman allegedly observed Gamboeck slide a piece of paper that contained heroin under the cell door. If convicted, the 38-year-old faces no more than three-and-a-half years in prison. Signature bond was set at $1,000 and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 18.
(Dodge County) Dodge County waterways will be patrolled this summer by a joint effort from the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. Recreation wardens will be joined by the Dodge County Sheriff’s Recreational Deputy Jason Roy to look for both boating violations and gaming violations. Roy says that although they are often viewed incorrectly as the fun police, they are dedicated to keeping the community safe while out enjoying area waterways.
(Dodge County) Officials with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation are encouraging safe driving practice when motorists take to the roads for the July 4th holiday. They say to buckle up, stay alert and expect slower traffic in work zones and along major travel corridors. Peak travel times are expected between noon and 8pm today (Wednesday) and Sunday. The DOT say construction in most highway work zones will be suspended by this afternoon and will not resume until 6am on July 8th. (Beaver Dam) A reminder for Beaver Dam residents: garbage collection by Advanced Disposal will be delayed by one day due to the July Fourth holiday. Tomorrow’s (Thursday’s) route will be collected on Friday and Friday’s route will be collected on Saturday. Monthly brush collection will also be delayed by one day with the Thursday pickup on Friday and Friday pickup being collected on Monday, July 8th. The public works garage is closed on Independence Day as well.
